Update Corona March 10

The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is circulating worldwide at the moment, is currently causing major restrictions in public life worldwide. We are concerned as well and are taking the situation seriously.

Nobody can predict the dynamics of the development. Right now, the situation is to be evalutated differently in each country and region. From our point of view, it is important to use our own resources and possibilities to prevent the spread of the disease. In North Rhine-Westphalia, major events with a minimum of 1,000 people have been restricted for the time being. No deadline was set, but it is highly unlikely that this situation will continue until August. Instead, we are experiencing events being moved to the summer at short notice and other official measures usually only lasting until mid-April.

Looking at the current situation, we have to distinguish three areas for EuroGames 2020:

  1. Sport:
In no sport will we accept more than 1,000 participants. This means that, according to the current situation, the sports competitions can take place in compliance with the relevant safety precautions.
  2. Ceremonies:
The opening and closing ceremonies will be held outdoors with more than 1,000 spectators. This would be prohibited according to the current situation. Nevertheless, the planning for the ceremonies continues to progress intensively. However, the feasibility is constantly monitored.
  3. Events:
These are mostly already planned and organized. They take place mainly in closed rooms, usually with more than 1,000 visitors. We will also closely monitor the situation here. A more detailed planning of the events is currently not necessary.

Based on this, we hereby make it clear that we will not cancel the EuroGames 2020 in Düsseldorf. According to the current situation, the sports can take place and we expect a clearance for major events well before the EuroGames. We are also in close contact with the authorities and also the EGLSF.

In order to make it easier for you to decide to register for the EuroGames, we are changing the conditions for cancellation:

  • Scenario 1: If the ceremonies (opening and closing ceremonies) cannot take place, but the EuroGames are held otherwise, we will refund 20 € to all participants who have paid.
  • Scenario 2: Should the EuroGames 2020 be completely cancelled by the authorities or the EuroGames gUG, we will refund all participants the participation fees minus the accrued costs. According to the current calculation, this would amount to 70% of all "participate-fees“.
  • Scenario 3: If nothing has to be cancelled and all events take place as planned, the cancellation options as to date take effect.

We are convinced that this situation will continue to be with us and has perhaps not yet reached its peak, but it is highly unlikely that this crisis situation will continue for another 5 months. With this in mind, we are still planning the EuroGames 2020!
