Triathlon at the EuroGames 2020

The triathlon race of the Eurogames 2020 in Düsseldorf will take place around the area of the Merkur arena.

The route is hand-measured and may show discrepancies.
The competition is open to everyone, regardless of ability.



Each competitor is responsible for the technical safety of his/her equipment.

The race is run in accordance with the stipulations of the Competition Collocation of the DTU in the current valid version of the German Traffic Laws (StVO).

In the case of extreme weather conditions, thunderstorms or for other unforeseen reasons, the organizer reserves the right to call off, interrupt or abort the competition.



The minimum age to be able to participate in the triathlon is 16.



There are 2 gender categories:
1. male*ident 2. female*ident 



Age groups 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, …

The transition from one age group to the next always takes place at the beginning of the calendar year in which the year of life determining the age group is completed.

Relay teams are assessed seperately.



The swimming part of the race takes place in the heated Rheinbad swimming pool.

Wearing a neoprene suit is not allowed.



The route consists of two laps of a circuit.
Each competitor must count the laps himself.
The streets will not be completely closed to traffic, therefore the German traffic
rules are to be observed. Competitors must ride on the right and be aware of any other traffic. All instructions given by stewards and assistants must be followed.

Each competitor is responsible for the safe condition of his bicycle. A safety helmet must be worn without exception. The start number is to be displayed on the competitor’s back. Riding in the slipstream of others is forbidden. Any violation of these rules could lead to disqualification.



The distance to be run is 5km.
The start number is to be displayed on the front of the competitor’s chest.
There will be drinking stations along the way.


Time measurement

The time measuring is done electronically, also with interim times, taken from the chip on the competitor’s ankle.
The chip is to be returned at the cycling check-out!!!
Upon return of the loaned chip, the 25 euro deposit will be refunded.



There are sufficient showers and toilets inside the Athletics Hall next to the start and finish line. The changing rooms are also there. Inside the Athletics Hall are lockers, which can be closed with padlocks. You have to bring the padlocks by yourself! The changing rooms are not guarded during the competition. We will also organize a guarded luggage space next to the start.



Each starter will get a participation medal.



There will be an award ceremony for the first three of each age group - expected soon after the last competition.



There is enough space for visitors to support the athletes around the course and inside the finishing stadium. Please follow the signs and the advice of our volunteer helpers and do not cross the course without asking the volunteers. Inside the Sportpark we will offer something to eat and drink.



The race village and starting line are located in the Arena Sportpark Düsseldorf, Am Staad 11. It is only 5-8 minutes walk from the Metro station „Merkur Arena/Messe Nord“. Starters and visitors can use the Metro Line 78. When exiting the Metro station, cross the Arena Street and walk next to the Merkur Arena straight ahead. At the end turn left and you will see the North-East Entrance.

If you are coming by car, please park in the P2 car park. From there it is only a 2 minute walk to the north-east entrance. The P2 cannot be reached via the Merkur Arena, but only via Niederrheinstraße and Stockumer Höfe.
